Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia and serving clients throughout Eastern Canada, Thorbahn Acoustics Inc. is a design and consulting firm specializing in building acoustics and noise control. As a science-based practice, the firm’s mission is to apply a unique combination of theoretical expertise and practical experience to improve the sounds of spaces across our region.
Using fully calibrated and state of the art tools and equipment, we collaborate with architects, designers, contractors, building owners and property managers to provide practical solutions and recommendations for the acoustics and noise control challenges of all types of building projects. Thorbahn Acoustics Inc. is a proud member of the National Council of Acoustical Consultants.
Founder
Jeremy Thorbahn is the Founder and Principal Consultant of Thorbahn Acoustics Inc. Born and raised in Nova Scotia, Jeremy is an acoustician and physicist with over 10 years of experience in acoustical consulting on high-profile projects across Canada and around the world and was selected as an advisor for the 2023 WELL Sound Concept Advisory by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI). He has worked in consulting organizations in Ottawa, the Greater Toronto Area and in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In Halifax, Jeremy launched and grew the local office of Thornton Tomasetti Canada Inc. and was promoted to Senior Project Director, overseeing the company’s acoustics, noise and vibration projects throughout Atlantic Canada before launching Thorbahn Acoustics Inc. Jeremy holds a Master of Science in Physics from Dalhousie University and aside from acoustics and noise control, also has interests in building design, materials science and music.
Jeremy’s wide-ranging expertise in building acoustics includes designing for sound isolation and speech privacy, noise control for HVAC systems, vibration isolation and room acoustic design for multimedia, performing arts, offices and teaching spaces. Jeremy is a member of the Canadian Acoustical Association and ASTM Committee E33 on Building and Environmental Acoustics.
